Dialogue tells you what characters say; stage directions specify actions, props, and sometimes timing. Read both before interpreting a line. “Sit wherever you like” sounds permissive until the only chair is kept behind the speaker’s desk. The contradiction creates a basis for discussing power without requiring you to invent a secret plan. Record the spoken offer and the practical access separately, then explain how the combination affects an audience’s interpretation.
